In the upcoming weeks we will be planning events and actions in Toronto and across the GTA aimed at unseating Conservatives in the key Swing Ridings of Oakville and Whitby/Oshawa. There will be theatre, there will be artwork, there will be films, there will be concerts, and there will be good old-fashioned community organizing.
As artists and arts professionals, we have a diverse and unique set of skills we can bring to a pivotal election in our nation’s history. There has been much talk in the news as of late debating the social value of culture and its relationship to the taxpayer. We believe this is simply a diversion that distracts from the core issue of the campaign:
That Stephen Harper and his band of Conservatives are wildly unqualified to govern our country.
The value of art to our culture is not in dispute and it is beyond debate. We want you to prove its power by devoting your creative work to disseminating this message. This is our greatest strength. Despite the deep pockets of the Conservative campaign and their state of the art War Room, they have a terrible weakness:
The vast majority of Canadians do not want a Conservative government. We share hopes and dreams for each other that are different from those of the Harper Conservatives.
The more information that your neighbours learn about the policies the Conservative candidate in each riding supports, the more likely they are not to vote Conservative. No amount of fundraising and commercials of Stephen Harper wearing a Mr. Rogers style sweater vest can undo the facts. The more we publicize the Conservative platform and objectives, the less likely they are to be elected. The more creatively that we publicize these it will become near impossible for them to take a seat in our House of Commons.
We are doing this because we want to live in a better world than the one the Conservatives are planning.
Come join us to help make this happen.
Our next meeting is:
Saturday September 20th 2008 at 10:00 am
Buddies in Bad Times Theatre - 12 Alexander Street, Toronto, ON
At this meeting we will provide training for everyone about how to empower and assist communities to make their voices heard in our key Swing Ridings. We have less than four weeks to organize. We can do this, but it will take focus, energy, and a sense of humour.
This election is far from over. We can make an impact.

Further to the issue of listeria-the late Molly Ivins describes a similar outbreak due to the same actions taken by Bush in her book Bushwhacked in America. What is not generally known is that Harper raised the limit of allowed pesticide residue on our food at one of the secret SPP meetings-this was revealed by the Council of Canadians. Moreover, Harper has sabotaged nuclear safety by interfering in the CNSC and firing Linda Keen. He has also destroyed the future of the medical radioisotope industry and caused a some billion dollar law suit by MDS Nordion. These jerks have got to go.They are positively the worst government in our history and are a disgrace to humanity.I wish you all the best in your endeavours
