For some absolutely unintelligible reason, not only has Stephen Harper decided to take today off campaigning, he did a lot of media yesterday about how he won’t be campaigning today.
The only reason we can think of, is that every time he tries to campaign he slips one more percent in the polls. If trying to explain your non-existent platform isn’t working - maybe not trying to explain something that doesn’t exist will work better….
In any case, we are not tired, and what we are doing is working.
A fundamental idea that has been floating around the DoC since the beginning is recognizing a notion first disseminated widely by Michael Moore: That Republicans (read: Harper Conservatives) are up at 6:00 am every morning trying to find ways to defeat us. It was an idea that Darren O’Donnell touched on also in his speech at our first Town Hall at the Theatre Centre in Toronto with Naomi Klein.
Today is the day we take back the mantle of hardest working people in the political process.
Stephen Harper is at home watching reruns of Borat and eating calorie reduced snacks. Here are some of the things we will be doing:
1
Calling our calling our friends and relatives (especially the ones in Swing Ridings) and explaining in the politest and most objective manner, why we believe Conservative candidates are not worthy of our votes this election.
2
Emailing the website voteforenvironment.ca to everyone we know. If you read this site regularly and have not done this yet, this is probably why you can’t fall asleep at night.
3
Printing off some of the information sheets from our Resources Page, getting a friend, and hitting the streets of a Swing Riding.
Anyone can do this. As a concerned citizen not identified with any political party, practically everyone will give you the time of day. People who pick this option may choose to walk around with their head a little higher on October 15th. It’s a personal victory, but it actually makes you feel really good about who you are and what you are willing to do for what you believe in (or definitely don’t believe in).
